Herbs & Supplements For Energy Renewal

Herbal tonics and nutritional supplements that help rebuild adrenal health, detoxify your organs, aid elimination and clear your mind can ease your transition off of caffeine. Add these supplements to Teeccino's Kick The Caffeine Habit Program to restore optimal health more quickly.

Adrenal tonics to rebuild your energy

Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) and Panax Ginseng (Panax ginseng or quinquefolius) traditionally combined with licorice are considered adrenal tonics. Both are classified as adaptogens, herbs that increase resistance to stress, whether the cause is physical, chemical or biological, and normalize physical systems by strengthening the immune system, the nervous system and the glandular system. Adaptogens enhance the body’s ability to recover and may be taken on a continuous basis without causing any harm.

Other adaptogenic herbs that can be of help to weakened adrenals are astragalus, schizandra berries, Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, and ashwagandha. Nutritional supplements that support adrenal health are the B vitamins and in particular pantothenic acid (B-5).

Detox herbs to enhance recovery

You might also consider some herbs to help detoxify your organs of elimination. Milk thistle, or the extract Silymarin from milk thistle, is a proven liver protective herb that prevents the entrance of liver toxins into the interior of liver cells. It also stimulates the regenerative ability of the liver and increases the formation of new liver cells. Since the liver’s job is to detoxify drugs and caffeine, your liver will work more efficiently once it is no longer taxed by detoxifying caffeine.

Burdock root and dandelion root both stimulate the gallbladder and increase bile production. Both are diuretics and along with parsley and uva ursi can help detoxify the kidneys. Remember to drink more water - at least 8 cups per day - during this detoxification period.

Fiber laxatives restore normal bowel function

Many people use caffeine as a laxative in the morning and need help reestablishing normal bowel movement after they quit their morning caffeinated cup. Teeccino Herbal Coffee with its rich inulin content can usually accomplish this task alone since inulin supports the bifidobacteria in the colon and helps form a soft stool.

If more assistance is needed, a bulk fiber laxative such as Organic India’s Fiber Harmony or chia seeds will gently promote normal bowel function. Fiber Harmony is based on psyllium husks and a daily dose of 7g can help reduce cholesterol and support heart health.

Clearing the Mind

To counteract brain fogginess in the first month or so of quitting caffeine, try a bioenergetic supplement coupled with some herbal extracts. Gotu kola and gingko biloba will help clear that fog and restore your normal brain clarity. Co-Q10, chromium, potassium and magnesium aspartate can help provide a real energy boost by increasing metabolic efficiency rather than stimulating the nervous system like caffeine does.

Getting deep sleep

To reset your circadian rhythm, which may be off due to stimulants artificially triggering cortisol production at the wrong time of day, take the nutritional supplement, melatonin, at night just before going to sleep. Melatonin is the hormone our pineal gland normally produces to induce a long night’s deep sleep. Getting to the deepest sleep stages is essential for waking up feeling refreshed. Without our deep sleep, we wake up groggy and tired. If you find yourself having a hard time wither going to sleep or getting up in the morning, try melatonin at night to see if it helps reset your circadian rhythms.

Avoid stimulants parading as energy boosters

Beware of products parading as energy uppers that simply contain caffeine. So-called energy drinks don’t supply energy at all; they do supply stress though! Many of them depend on caffeine from lesser known sources such as guarana, kola nut, and yerba maté. If you want to rebuild your own natural energy supply, avoid these types of drinks and supplements unless they state that they are caffeine-free.
