If oats were discovered today, they’d be touted as an amazing nutrient-dense superfood by every influencer on TikTok and Instagram.
I’m a devoted advocate for eating oats because I’ve proven to my doctor that they lower my cholesterol enough to keep me off statin drugs. I’m not the only one. There are multiple studies showing the same effect that the soluble fiber in oats has on cholesterol.
I’ve tested my cholesterol with and without including oats regularly in my diet. I have genetically high cholesterol but am not willing to take statin drugs, which gave my mother type ll diabetes. If I eat oats in my TeeChia cereal 3-5 times a week, its viscous soluble fiber sweeps cholesterol out of my blood. I have done this experiment multiple times and seen a drop of 40+ points of LDL cholesterol when I eat oats.

When I began creating the formula for instant Teeccino lattes, I noticed that most brands were using only coconut milk in their lattes. Why? People have become worried about eating carbohydrates and have lost sight of the nutritional value of oats.
I’m completely with the low-carb movement when it comes to eating simple carbs that spike blood sugar because they don’t have any fiber or nutrients. However, oats are different. In comparison to coconut milk, all the macro nutrients in oats along with 1g of fiber per serving in our lattes overshadows their carb contribution. We also blend coconut milk into the lattes for their fats, but beyond that, coconut milk doesn’t contribute many nutrients to our bodies.
Here’s why I think whole grain oats cannot be lumped into the same category as simple carbs without fiber.
Heart-healthy oats

Among their many benefits, oats are particularly rich in a type of soluble fiber called beta-glucan. This fiber forms a gel-like substance in the digestive tract that binds with cholesterol and helps sweep it out of the body. Numerous studies have shown that regular consumption of oats can help reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol as well as total cholesterol while supporting heart health—a natural, food-based way to care for your cardiovascular system without relying solely on statin drugs.
When you enjoy oat milk in Teeccino’s new lattes, you’re not just savoring a creamy, plant-based alternative to dairy—you’re also getting the cardiovascular benefits from oats themselves. Oat milk provides the soluble fiber that makes oats so special, giving your latte an extra heart-healthy boost. It’s a delicious way to fold a cholesterol-lowering food into your daily routine.
Sustained natural energy boost

But oats aren’t just about heart health—they’re also a source of sustained natural energy, a goal that is at the heart of our values at Teeccino. Unlike the quick jolt and crash that often comes from sugar or highly refined carbs, the complex carbohydrates in oats digest slowly, releasing glucose steadily into your bloodstream.
It’s no wonder the expression “feeling your oats” was inspired by the spirited burst of energy a horse shows after eating its fill of oats. In much the same way, an oat-based latte helps fuel your body with steady vitality, keeping you energized and focused without the highs and lows produced by stimulants like sugar and caffeine.
Good carbs are balanced carbs

Carbohydrates have gotten an unfair reputation, but not all carbs are created equal. The 9–12 grams of carbohydrates per serving in Teeccino’s oat milk lattes are complex carbohydrates that release energy slowly. Instead of spiking blood sugar like refined carbs do, the natural carbs in oats are paired with soluble fiber, which helps regulate the way your body absorbs glucose. This means you get steady fuel rather than a sudden surge followed by a crash.
It’s also important to look at carbs in the context of the whole drink. In our lattes, those carbohydrates are balanced with 2 grams of fat from creamy coconut milk and MCT oil, which provide longer-lasting satiety and quick-burning energy for your brain.
You’re also getting 1 gram of protein from the oats themselves, which helps moderate the digestion of carbs and adds to the feeling of fullness. Fat and protein both slow down digestion, which helps keep blood sugar steady while also promoting satiety—you feel fuller, longer.

I’m very much a fan of MCT oil, which is unique because it’s rapidly metabolized by the liver into ketones, providing a quick, clean-burning energy source for both your body and brain. This means that when you drink our oat milk lattes, your body is drawing on two complementary fuels at once: the slow-release carbs from oats and the quick, efficient energy from MCTs.
When fat, protein, and fiber are present together—as they are in Teeccino’s oat milk lattes—they work in harmony to keep energy levels stable and cravings at bay. So instead of seeing carbs as something to avoid, think of them as part of a well-rounded nutritional profile.
Your body actually needs carbohydrates for energy, and when they come packaged in a wholesome latte with fiber, healthy fats, and plant-based protein, they’re doing a lot of good. In other words, these are the kind of carbs you can feel good about consuming.
Macro-nutrients and antioxidants in oats keep your body healthy

Beyond fiber and energy, oats also deliver a spectrum of vitamins and minerals your body requires. They’re naturally rich in B vitamins (which support energy metabolism and nervous system health), iron (essential for oxygen transport in the blood), magnesium (key for muscle and nerve function), and zinc (vital for immunity and repair). Together, these nutrients make oats a true powerhouse grain.
Oats aren’t just about fiber, vitamins, and minerals — they’re also rich in antioxidants, compounds that protect your body from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress happens when free radicals — unstable molecules created by metabolism, stress, or environmental toxins — build up faster than your body can neutralize them. Over time, this can contribute to inflammation, aging, and chronic disease.

The star antioxidants in oats are a unique group of polyphenols called avenanthramides. Found almost exclusively in oats, avenanthramides have been shown in research to help reduce inflammation, improve blood vessel function, and increase nitric oxide production. More nitric oxide means better circulation and blood pressure regulation — adding to oat’s beneficial effects on heart health. On top of that, avenanthramides have natural anti-itch and soothing effects in the body, which is why oats are also good for your skin.
When you look at the full nutritional profile, Teeccino’s oat milk lattes aren’t simply providing “carbs”—they’re a balanced blend of macronutrients and antioxidants designed to nourish, protect and energize. The carbohydrates provide steady energy, the fats support satiety and cognitive function, the protein and antioxidants add protection and repair, and the fiber ties it all together for digestive and metabolic health.
Prebiotics in Teeccino lattes keep you and your gut happy

Another powerful benefit of Teeccino’s lattes comes from their prebiotic content. Prebiotics are special soluble fibers that nourish the probiotics living in your gut, helping them thrive and multiply.
In some of our lattes, this prebiotic support comes naturally from inulin, a soluble fiber that occurs naturally in our chicory root extract. In others, we’ve added Xylo-oligosaccharide (XOS), a next-generation prebiotic concentrate that clinical research has shown to significantly increase populations of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium—two of the most important species of gut flora for human health.
Why does that matter? Because your gut microbiome plays an enormous role in how you feel and function every day. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are essential for maintaining a healthy digestive tract by crowding out harmful bacteria, producing beneficial short-chain fatty acids, and supporting the gut lining itself. A resilient gut barrier is the first line of defense for your immune system, since nearly 70% of immune cells reside in the gut. By fostering these good bacteria, prebiotics help strengthen immunity at its source.

But the benefits go far beyond digestion and immunity. Gut bacteria also interact closely with the gut–brain axis, a communication pathway between your intestines and your nervous system. Studies show that healthy levels of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium can influence the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and GABA, which play key roles in regulating mood, stress, and even sleep quality. It’s one of the reasons the gut is often called our “second brain.” By nurturing your microbiome with prebiotics, you’re not just supporting physical health—you’re also giving your mental and emotional well-being a natural boost.
Oats are prebiotics too

Oats aren’t just a heart-healthy whole grain—they’re also a natural prebiotic food. They also provide nourishment for the beneficial bacteria in your gut, helping them grow and thrive. The main player here is the same beta-glucan soluble fiber that contributes to heart health.
While part of beta-glucan helps lower cholesterol by binding to bile acids, another part travels down to the colon where your gut microbes ferment it. This fermentation process produces short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, acetate, and propionate, which are critical for gut health. Butyrate, in particular, helps keep the lining of your colon strong and resilient while reducing inflammation.
In addition to beta-glucan, oats also contain resistant starch, a type of carbohydrate that resists digestion in the small intestine and instead becomes food for gut flora in the large intestine. Together, these compounds help boost the growth of beneficial bacteria that promoted the growth of the same highly beneficial microbes supported by chicory root’s inulin and the XOS in Teeccino’s lattes.
The result is a synergistic effect: when you drink an oat milk latte, you’re not just fueling yourself—you’re also feeding your microbiome. A healthier gut microbiome means stronger immunity, better digestion, and even benefits for mood and mental clarity through the gut–brain axis.
All this results in every sip of a Teeccino latte doing more than just tasting delicious.
