What do you mean by herbal coffee?

Herbal coffee is a blend of herbs, roots, fruits, seeds and nuts that have been roasted and ground to brew and taste like coffee. Chicory and dandelion roots along with barley and ramón seeds are some of the roasted botanicals in herbal coffees.

Most people are aware that there is no “milk” in soy milk, no butter in peanut butter and no “burger” in a veggie burger. However, many people don’t realize that there is no “tea” in herbal tea and similarly, no “coffee” in herbal coffee; thus it is 100% caffeine free.

Is Teeccino’s tea bag paper plastic free?

Yes, Teeccino’s tea bag paper is completely free of plastic. The sealing fiber in the paper is made from a plant fiber that is renewable and biodegradable.

The paper is certified industrial compostable by TUV Austria. However, if you want to compost your tea bags in a backyard compost pile, the plant fibers will take longer to break down than if they are composted in an industrial composter that produces higher heat. Nevertheless, the fibers will completely break down in time without contributing any plastic to the environment.

Is Teeccino an instant product?

NO! The secret to getting the full-bodied, deep roasted flavor of Teeccino lies in brewing Teeccino. The process of creating Instant teas, instant coffee or instant coffee alternatives creates inferior flavor that won’t give you the taste satisfaction that comes from fresh brewed beverages. Additionally, instant beverages lose many of their phytonutrients through the manufacturing process that would ordinarily contribute to making these brewed beverages so healthy for you.

If you desire a simpler method of brewing a cup of Teeccino, we recommend Teeccino tea bags that can be conveniently steeped. There are also many options for brewing a single cup of Teeccino using our all-purpose grind at home or on-the-go. Check out our recommended one-cup brewing tools.

Does Teeccino's grind work in all different brewing methods?

YES! Teeccino contains a variety of ingredients that are each ground to different specifications. This composite grind allows Teeccino to be brewed in a variety of ways including drip coffee brewers, French press pots, Italian moka pots, percolators and espresso machines. Using a refillable K-cup, you can brew Teeccino in Keurig® machines.

Although making a cup of Teeccino is as simple as brewing coffee, visit our Brewing Tips to create your ultimate cup of Teeccino!

What is the difference between our herbal coffees and herbal teas?

We distinguish between our Chicory Herbal Coffees and Roasted Herbal Teas by the brewing method and how much is used to make a cup.

The all-purpose grind in our herbal coffee bag can be brewed in any kind of coffee maker. Typically, people use around 10g / 1 rounded tablespoon of the all-purpose grind to brew a 10 oz cup at coffee strength.

The tea bags are designed for the convenience of steeping like tea. They hold 6g of herbs to make an 8 oz cup – that’s three times more herbs than standard tea bags! The ingredients in both the all-purpose grind and the tea bags are the same, but the tea bags produce a lighter, more tea-like brew due to the lower ratio of herbs to water.

Does Teeccino need to be refrigerated like coffee?

No! Teeccino will not go stale like coffee because it doesn’t have coffee oils which go rancid when not refrigerated. Simply reseal the foil bag with the resealing tape on the package and store in your cupboard. You could also use a clip or rubber band to secure the package further.Brewed Teeccino can last up to a week in your refrigerator, making it convenient and easy to drink iced Teeccino in the summer or reheat Teeccino to enjoy a cup later.

Can Teeccino be cold brewed?

Yes, but cold brewing creates a lighter, more tea-like brew. If you want a more robust brew, using hot water is recommended. Cold brew, which uses cold water, is a less efficient extraction of the flavor and health benefits of the herbs in Teeccino.

People like cold brewed coffee because the light extraction leaves behind a lot of the acidic and bitter flavor notes in the coffee beans instead of extracting them into the brewed liquid. Depending on how you like to drink Teeccino, you may prefer a full-bodied, bold brew or a lighter brew that is more appealing to tea drinkers.

In order to drink Teeccino cold, you can choose to chill hot brewed Teeccino or brew it with a cold brewing method. To create a bold, dark brew, use water just off the boil in a French press pot or brew as directed in a drip coffee brewer. After liquid Teeccino has cooled down a bit, chill it in your refrigerator where it can last up to one week.

For cold brewed Teeccino, leave the Teeccino grounds steeping in cold filtered water for 12 - 24 hours in your refrigerator. Start by using 2 tbsp to 10 oz of water. Strain the grounds out using a fine mesh strainer and adjust for strength according to your preference by adding more cold water if you want a weaker brew. If you want a stronger brew, we suggest using the hot brewing method.

Either method of brewing Teeccino will produce a delicious glass of chilled Teeccino to enjoy. Have fun experimenting to discover which is your personal favorite!

What is the best way to reseal a bag of Teeccino?

On the back of every bag of Teeccino Herbal Coffee, there is a tape that says “Reseal”. You can lift it off the bag by using the white part which isn’t sticky so it will lift off the bag easily. Then fold down the bag and use the tape to reseal it over the top of the fold and down the back of the bag. Sometimes after many uses, the tape will lose its stickiness. If that happens, we recommend folding down the bag and using either a bag clip or a rubber band to hold it closed. It is important to reseal Teeccino bags firmly so that the freshness is kept inside the bag and no bugs can get in. Bugs do love Teeccino too!

Is there any coffee or caffeine in Teeccino?

No! There are no coffee beans in Teeccino. Nor is there any tea. Teeccino’s ingredients consist of a blend of naturally caffeine-free herbs, roots, fruits and nuts that are roasted and ground to brew and taste like coffee. Read more about Teeccino’s ingredients.

How do I quit coffee?

We do not recommend going cold turkey. Over a two-week period, start blending Teeccino with your coffee. Begin with 3/4 coffee and 1/4 Teeccino and gradually increase the amount of Teeccino until you are drinking 100% Teeccino. Herbal tonics and nutritional supplements can also aid you in restoring your own natural energy supply. Quit caffeine painlessly by following our plan for avoiding caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

Why not just drink decaf?

Decaf coffee is not caffeine free. A 12 oz cup of decaf contains anywhere from 10-17 milligrams of caffeine. A 16 oz Starbucks® Grande contains 12-23 milligrams and a 20 oz Venti contains upwards of 28 milligrams! If you order a cup of decaf coffee at a coffee bar or restaurant, independent studies have shown a great variance in the amount of caffeine in the cup even on the same day from the very same place. There is no safety in avoiding caffeine if you order a cup of decaf coffee.

Decaf coffee is made from highly acidic coffee beans and thus it is even harder than regular coffee on the gastrointestinal tract. If you have gastrointestinal problems or suffer from acid indigestion, you’ll find that eliminating coffee from your diet, whether it is decaf or regular, will help your recovery process.

In addition, studies show that decaf raises the LDL fraction of cholesterol (commonly referred to as ‘bad’ cholesterol) by 8 to 10% in only 3 months, leading to an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. Most decaf has been extracted using the solvent methylene chloride, a known carcinogen, which leaves behind small but significant residues that could be implicated in the development of chronic diseases. Learn more about how eliminating coffee is beneficial to your digestive health.

Is there caffeine in the natural coffee flavor in Teeccino?

There is no caffeine in the natural coffee flavor in Teeccino. All Teeccino flavors are derived from compounds extracted from plants using steam distillation or alcohol extraction in order to create natural flavors. In the case of natural coffee flavor, the components of coffee flavor are extracted from a number of ingredients that include chicory root and other roasted herbs. All Teeccino flavors comply with all organic USDA standards so they do not include any artificial ingredients, MSG, animal products, propylene glycol, preservatives, or chemicals not permitted in organic products under the USDA organic certification rules.

The expertise of flavor chemists allows them to extract only those flavoring components that they require from natural ingredients without getting many other components of each source that don’t contribute to the flavor. Thus, it is possible to produce coffee flavor without the caffeine or acidity found in coffee beans. But watch out for coffee flavored ice cream, yogurt, etc., because these foods usually contain a coffee concentrate or even ground coffee beans that do have caffeine.

Is there caffeine in the cocoa powder in Teeccino's chocolate blends?

Cocoa contains a small amount of caffeine. However, since cocoa is used as a flavoring in Teeccino in very small quantities, no detectable level of caffeine has been found in Teeccino chocolate blends when tested by independent laboratories.

There is, however, a small amount of theobromine, a milder stimulant found in cocoa powder. If you need to avoid all central nervous system stimulants, you should drink other Teeccino blends that don’t contain cocoa powder.

Is Teeccino safe for pregnant women and nursing mothers?

YES! All the herbs in Teeccino have been in the human diet for thousands of years. There are no stimulants or drugs like caffeine that could cause uterine contractions or hyperactivity for the infant. Although there is misinformation repeated on some internet sites about chicory being contraindicated during pregnancy, there is no scientific substantiation of this claim. On the contrary, there is a long history of pregnant women drinking chicory-based beverages with no problems whatsoever.

Teeccino is nutritious for both mom and baby. Many health care practitioners, midwives and doctors recommend Teeccino to their pregnant patients. Learn more about the effects of coffee and caffeine on women’s health.

Will Teeccino give me an energy boost?

Many people experience an energy lift from drinking Teeccino. The nutrients in Teeccino are in liquid form, making them very bioavailable and quickly absorbed. Teeccino replenishes potassium, an electrolyte mineral that stimulates nerve impulses, helps oxygenate the brain, and enhances athletic performance.

The potassium present in Teeccino is completely natural, derived from the ingredients themselves. Sports drinks rely on added potassium to achieve the same effect, but Teeccino’s natural potassium is at an even higher per serving than sports drinks. Thus, many people find Teeccino makes for a re-energizing post-workout beverage.

Another factor that may explain why people experience an energy lift from Teeccino is the pinitol that is naturally present in carob pods. Pinitol has been shown to act like insulin by making cells receptive to taking in glycogen, the energy component in the blood. The natural pinitol in carob may help people who are insulin resistant by increasing the ability of their muscles to use glycogen. Learn more about Teeccino’s natural energy boost.

What is inulin?

Inulin is a plant-based, soluble fiber that is part of chicory root and naturally extracts into a cup of Teeccino during brewing. (Inulin is not the hormone, insulin, which is excreted by the pancreas to control blood sugar levels). Inulin is a prebiotic that supports a healthy and diverse population of beneficial digestive probiotics like lactobacillus and bifidus bacteria. It is found in many foods like wheat, garlic, onions, and artichokes, but its concentration is highest in chicory and dandelion roots. By drinking a couple of cups of Teeccino daily, you can double your prebiotic intake.

Inulin passes through the digestive tract unabsorbed and thus has no caloric value. In the large intestines however, it becomes food for the beneficial microflora such as lactobacillus and bifidus bacteria. The consumption of inulin helps establish and maintain a healthy population of beneficial microflora that are responsible for creating B vitamins, supporting the immune system, and promoting the absorption of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Inulin has also been shown to be helpful in maintaining balanced blood sugar.

Occasionally, a new Teeccino drinker may experience excess gas. The excess gas is most likely caused by unfavorable resistant bacteria in the gut. Prebiotics are known to feed the “good” digestive bacteria, but occasionally there may be some unfavorable, resistant bacteria that can cause gas. We have found that the excess gas some people have experienced goes away once probiotics with lactobacillus and bifidus species are added to the diet.

What is a prebiotic?

Prebiotics are the nutrients that make your probiotics thrive. Keeping the microbiome (your community of probiotics) healthy and diverse depends on eating prebiotics. If you are taking probiotics to improve your digestion, you should understand that 90% of the critters that live in your gut aren't available in a nutritional supplement because they are anaerobic – they can’t live in the presence of oxygen. Nevertheless, you can nourish the thousands of species of probiotics in your gut by consuming prebiotics like the inulin found in Teeccino.

Drinking Teeccino (a prebiotic) along with taking a probiotic should help rebalance your colon with the right mix of healthy bacteria that it needs for optimal digestive health. From then on, Teeccino will continue to support a healthy population of beneficial bacteria that is necessary for good health. Read more about Prebiotics.

What makes coffee and tea so acidic in the body?

Coffee is highly acidic to the body due to its content of over 100 acids. The acids in coffee, some of which have not even been identified, can be highly irritating to the stomach and intestinal lining. Coffee also stimulates an increased production of gastric acid which can aggravate a variety of digestive ailments, including heartburn, acid reflux and GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.) Decaf has the same (or an even stronger) effect because the beans used to produce decaf coffee are usually more acidic than regular coffee beans.

Caffeine is also a contributing factor to the acidic effect of coffee and tea in the body. Caffeine belongs to a group of chemicals called xanthines. Caffeine has to be detoxified in the liver and its metabolites, methylxanthine, methyluric acid and uric acid, are excreted by the kidneys in the urine. If the diet is over-acidic and the kidneys are not able to keep up with processing acids, these acids can contribute to a buildup of acidity in the body.

Studies have shown that coffee can reduce the pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter, which normally prevents the reflux of the acid contents of the stomach from going back up into the esophagus. Since this effect is produced by both coffee and decaf coffee, it is not just the caffeine in coffee that contributes to heartburn, acid reflux, and GERDS. Learn more about the benefits to your health of drinking non-acidic Teeccino.

Is Teeccino good for people with acid reflux, GERD, and IBS?

Yes! We have many customers who drink Teeccino because they gave up coffee after being diagnosed with acid reflux, GERD and/or inflammatory bowel conditions like IBS. Read their testimonials here.

Coffee, both caffeinated and decaffeinated, is highly acidic and stimulates an increase in gastric acids. Coffee is also shown to speed up the process of gastric emptying, which may lead to acidic contents passing into the small intestine too soon. This could injure the intestinal tissue causing very unpleasant symptoms.

Teeccino’s potassium content supplies the body with an alkaline mineral needed to correct metabolic acidity. Inulin, a soluble fiber in Teeccino that comes from chicory root, supports a healthy population of beneficial microflora in both the gut and the colon. Including more inulin in your diet by drinking Teeccino supports good digestive health.

If you suffer from digestive disorders, we highly recommend weaning yourself off of coffee using Teeccino’s Kick the Caffeine Habit Program.

Does Teeccino have an acidic or alkaline effect on the body?

Drinking Teeccino helps you reduce acidity in your body in two ways:

First, it provides the alkaline mineral, potassium, which your body uses to neutralize acidity and restore alkaline balance.

Second, the soluble fiber, inulin, which naturally extracts from chicory in every cup of Teeccino, supports a healthy population of beneficial microflora, enhancing your digestion and increasing the bioavailability of minerals. By increasing your daily intake of inulin, you improve your ability to absorb the alkaline minerals calcium, potassium, magnesium, cobalt, and copper that a healthy person needs to maintain the body’s natural alkaline balance. Learn more about the health benefits of drinking non-acidic Teeccino.

What is Teeccino's pH?

Many customers are confused when they test brewed Teeccino with a litmus pH strip. Depending on the pH of the water you use to brew with, you’ll get varying pH test results. However, the pH of brewed Teeccino isn’t actually relevant to its alkaline effect in the body.

The alkaline minerals calcium, potassium and magnesium are used by the body to correct metabolic acidity. That’s what makes fruits and vegetables alkaline. Teeccino’s bioavailable potassium, along with the absence of other acids, produces an alkaline effect in the body. Coffee has as many as 100 acids in the brewed liquid, which is why many people have an acid reflux reaction after drinking it.

Alkaline water is made alkaline through the minerals it contains, either naturally like “mineral water” or through added minerals like the alkaline waters available in the marketplace. While brewing with an alkaline water will give you better results on a pH test, what you really want to focus on in order to be alkaline is eating and drinking foods and beverages that are high in alkaline minerals.

Does Teeccino contain acrylamides?

Simply put, you can’t avoid acrylamides if you’re going to eat baked food including toasted bread, baked potatoes, black olives or prunes, or drink roasted beverages like coffee and Teeccino.

Teeccino contains herbs which have been shown to form acrylamides when roasted. We use a dark roast that has lower levels of acrylamides because the longer you roast, the levels of acrylamides drop off. Additionally, we have our chicory roasted in France with a roaster who has specialized in reducing acrylamides to the lowest possible levels. Not all of our herbs are roasted and thus, Teeccino contains less acrylamides compared to other coffee alternatives. Laboratory tests show that Teeccino has about the same amount as coffee.

Additionally, Teeccino contains numerous, water soluble antioxidants such as OPCs (proanthocyananidins) and flavonoids. Antioxidants protect DNA from exposure to free radicals and toxins. We believe that although we eat foods all the time that contain acrylamides and we are exposed to other types of potentially harmful toxins from our environment, diets rich in antioxidants help protect our bodies from the effect of these substances.

If you live in California, a lawsuit about coffee and acrylamides under Prop 65 was finally settled with a determination that coffee does not have to be marketed with the Prop 65 warning. A review of the numerous studies on coffee drinking showed that no studies have proven that drinking coffee causes cancer. Like Teeccino, coffee contains antioxidants that help the body fight free radicals. Furthermore, no studies have yet determined that acrylamides, as they naturally occur in foods and beverages, cause cancer.

Is Teeccino safe for children to drink?

Yes! The ingredients in Teeccino have been in the human diet for thousands of years. Teeccino makes a great caffeine-free and sugar-free hot beverage for children. The whole family can enjoy a pot of Teeccino together!

How can there be 0g of sugar in a brewed cup of Teeccino if the Mediterranean flavors have dates and figs?

Nutrition facts on food and beverage labels are regulated by the FDA. If there is less than 0.5g of a nutrient (e.g. protein, sugars, sodium etc.), the FDA ruling is that this nutrient has to be listed as 0g. Drinking a cup of brewed Teeccino isn’t like eating a date or a fig. The quantity is much smaller and during brewing, just a light sweetness along with caramel flavor from the dates and figs naturally extracts into the brew.

Teeccino’s nutrition data is tested at a 3rd party laboratory. Any natural sugars from dates and figs in a cup of Teeccino tests at less than 0.5g and thus we comply with the FDA and list it as 0g.

Does Teeccino contain any gluten?

Teeccino offers certified gluten-free blends made without barley for gluten sensitive customers. You can find those blends on our website when visiting the Shop page by using the filter under the banner and selecting “gluten free”.

Regarding Teeccino blends that contain barley, an independent laboratory at the University of Nebraska specializing in gluten testing found no detectable levels in brewed Teeccino when using a paper filter. While we have had gluten-sensitive customers experience reactions to our barley-containing blends, we also have had customers with celiac disease who drink those blends without a problem. It is important for each person to determine for themselves if they are safe drinking our barley-containing blends or if they should only drink our certified gluten-free blends.

For gluten-sensitive customers who want to try our blends that contain barley, we highly recommend using a paper filter in a drip coffee maker to brew Teeccino so that no particles of Teeccino can leak into the brewed liquid. Teeccino tea bags are also perfect for gluten-sensitive customers because the grounds are enclosed completely in the tea bag filter paper. Since ingesting small particles of Teeccino grounds could cause a reaction to gluten, we don’t recommend reusable filters since they are not as reliable as paper filters in preventing particles from going through the filter during brewing.

Is Teeccino Vegan?

Yes, we are proud to say that everything we use, from our ingredients to our tea bags, is vegan. While some teas use flavorings that are non-vegan, we take special precaution to ensure we only source organic-compliant, natural and certified organic flavors that are derived from plants. All Teeccino flavors are free of any compounds derived from meat, seafood, poultry, eggs as well as any artificial ingredients, preservatives, MSG and allergens like soy or edible yeast.

What makes Teeccino's flavors natural?

Teeccino uses only pure, natural flavors made from flavoring constituents that are extracted from plants (i.e. fruits, spices, and herbs). Teeccino flavors do not contain any constituents from meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, soy, soy derivatives or edible yeast. Teeccino does not allow any monosodium glutamate (MSG) or any derivatives of MSG, propylene glycol, or preservatives in its flavors.

All Teeccino flavors are either “organic compliant” or certified organic which means that no ingredients are allowed in them that have been extracted using synthetic solvents or that are not permissible in organic products according to the USDA National Organic Program.

Why are some blends USDA organic while other blends are "made with organic herbs"?

Carob, barley, chicory root, dandelion root, ramón seeds and many other ingredients used in Teeccino are all certified organic. Some of Teeccino’s other ingredients are organic too, but they may not be declared certified organic on our label due to problems with consistent supply.

Unfortunately, there is limited availability of ingredients like certified organic dates and almonds as well as some of our more unique wild harvested herbs like Rhodiola root from Siberia. However, because we believe in full transparency, we declare on every blend that is not USDA organic, the percentage of organic ingredients in each blend. Thus, some of Teeccino’s blends are 75% organic, some are 85% organic, and some are as much as 94% organic. The threshold for having the USDA organic symbol on a product label is 95% organic. We have many blends that have achieved this and display the USDA symbol on their labels.

If you wish to buy only USDA organic blends, please use the filter on the Shop page under the banner to select “organic” and all our blends that have greater than 95% organic ingredients will be displayed.

What are Ramón seeds?

Ramón seeds are the seed of the fruit of the ramón tree, a 130 ft tall tree that grows throughout Central America. The ramón tree (Brosimum Alicastrum) is a member of the fig family, which also includes mulberry trees and forms the upper canopy of the rainforest.

Referred to as the “corn tree” by the Maya civilization, its seed was a nutrient-rich, staple food crop, capable of being stored for lengthy periods of time. Fresh ramón seeds can be boiled like potatoes. The dry seed is roasted, ground into a flour and combined with corn for baking. Dark roasted ramón seeds taste very similar to coffee!

Ramón seeds are high in potassium, fiber, and minerals. They contain all the essential amino acids including a high amount of tryptophan, known for its calming effects. Ramón seeds are both fat free and gluten free. They were used medicinally by the Maya to detoxify the liver and promote lactation in nursing women. Other common names for ramón seeds are ojoche, mojo, breadnut and maya nut. Read more about how Teeccino has created new trade for ramón seeds, benefiting rural people in Central America.

Is Teeccino GMO free?

Teeccino is completely free of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) which is a requirement for any product to be certified organic. Fortunately, our job is made easier by the fact that Monsanto and other scientists haven’t seen fit to tinker with the genetic composition of any of Teeccino’s ingredients. We are vigilant, however, with all our suppliers requesting a guarantee that the ingredients they supply do not contain GMOs.

What are the mushroom extracts in Teeccino?

In Teeccino Mushroom Adaptogen Herbal Coffees & Teas, we use organic mushroom extracts made from both “fruiting bodies”, which are what we think of as mushrooms, and mycelium which might be compared to the roots and trunk of a tree. Although most of the science on the wellness benefits of mushrooms have been performed on the fruiting bodies, we became convinced that some exciting new research on mycelium meant that we should include it too. In a way, this is like using the whole herb extract rather than just a compound within an herb.

There is controversy about the use of mushroom mycelium extracts because they are grown on grains. Many mycelium extracts are only 60-70% mycelium and they still have a high amount of starch left in them from the grain. Our research into the best mycelium available found that mycelium grown on sorghum converts over 90% of the sorghum to mycelium. We use only this kind of mycelium in Teeccino in order to provide the highest amount of the beneficial nutrients in the mycelium.

Teeccino’s mushroom extracts have been extracted by hot water and then concentrated when they dry. This is the time-honored way of preparing both botanicals and mushrooms for people to ingest. Hot water opens up the pores of the natural ingredient and allows the phytonutrients to extract. Cold water actually is an inefficient means of extraction even after many hours of soaking. Sometimes, heat even makes the compounds more bioavailable but certainly, water extractions are much more easily and quickly absorbed by our bodies than if we were to eat the mushrooms themselves.

What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are herbs and mushrooms that increase resistance to stress, whether the cause is physical, chemical or biological.  They have a non-specific normalizing effect on the body’s physical systems by strengthening the immune system, the nervous system and the glandular system. Adaptogens also enhance the body’s ability to recover after exercise, reduce fatigue and increase cognitive function. They may be taken on a continuous basis without causing any harm.

Teeccino Mushroom Adaptogen blends feature an herbal adaptogen paired with a wellness mushroom adaptogen. Our adaptogenic ingredients have been used for thousands of years.

What is Prebiotic SuperBoost™ GOS and XOS?

Teeccino’s Prebiotic SuperBoost combines two prebiotic concentrates that studies have shown are effective in improving gut health even when consumed in small doses such as 1 gram per day. GOS, a vegan plant-based prebiotic called gluco-oligosaccharide, and XOS, a certified organic plant fiber called xylo-oligsaccharide, are both indigestible by humans but they are fermented by the microbiota in the gut.

Studies show that both XOS and GOS increase the population of beneficial probiotics such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. They also can suppress populations of ‘bad’ bacteria aka pathogenic bacteria. Consuming prebiotics can alter the ratio of certain species of microbiota that are favorable to the health of a person’s microbiome, the community of microorganisms in your gut. A flourishing microbiome should be diverse with over 1000 species, but the modern diet along with prescription drugs like antibiotics can greatly weaken or reduce the number of species.

Prebiotics are fermented in the gut by probiotics to make short chain fatty acids that are associated with many beneficial metabolic processes. The absorption of minerals, as well as various immune functions, depends on a healthy microbiome. Probiotic supplements can only deliver 10% of the species found in the gut. Thus, it is important to consume prebiotics in order to nourish all your probiotics and support a diversity of species in your gut.

Two cups a day of Teeccino Prebiotic SuperBoost™ blends provide more than 1000 mg of XOS and GOS along with the prebiotic, inulin, which naturally extracts from chicory root while brewing. Your microbiome will be well fed by these three prebiotics!

Does Teeccino buy fair trade ingredients?

Most of Teeccino’s ingredients are grown in Europe and the USA. We source organic chicory in India and wild-crafted ramón seeds in Guatemala, where we work with small family farmers and rainforest villagers. These ingredients create new trade in developing countries that provides more economic opportunities in regions where sources of income are scarce.

Fair trade is very important for commodity-driven products where exploitation is common. Creating new trade provides more ways to raise the quality of life for rural communities. By drinking Teeccino, you join us in supporting families devoted to organic values in both first world and developing countries. Read more about Teeccino’s work creating new trade.

Teeccino does not ship internationally. However, for our international customers, we recommend buying Teeccino on http://www.iHerb.com since they specialize in delivering international shipments at the lowest possible cost.

What is Teeccino’s shelf life and how should it be stored?

The Best By date for Teeccino is three years from production. After that, Teeccino is still drinkable and doesn’t spoil or go rancid but the flavor may not be as fresh. We’ve tasted Teeccino that is many years old and have been surprised that it still tastes good!

Tea bags are protected by their individual envelopes, so they don’t need further protection if you’ve opened the tea box. However, herbal coffee bags should be resealed with the reseal tape provided on the back of the bag or with a clip or rubber band to keep the product fresh and safe from bugs.

Teeccino does not need to be refrigerated because it doesn’t contain oils like coffee does that go rancid. If you’ve brewed Teeccino, you can keep the liquid in the refrigerator up to one week. It can be reheated or enjoyed iced.
