Dates & Figs

Dates & Figs for Natural Sweetness

Dehydrated dates (Phoenix dactylifera) and figs (Ficus carica) that are ground into granules are used to lightly sweeten some ofTeeccino’sblends without adding significantly to the calories per serving. Since many people sweeten their cups of coffee or tea, those Teeccinoblendswith dates and figs often allow people to reduce the amount of sugar they usually use or eliminate it all together. Our naturally sweet blends are appreciated by people who want to lower their calories and sugar intake but still satisfy their sweet tooth!

Potassium, Antioxidants, and Other Health Benefits

Both dates and figs contribute potassium and other water-soluble and easily absorbable nutrients to a cup of Teeccino. Potassium is an electrolyte mineral that helps to balance the pH in the body, regulate blood pressure, contract muscles including the heart, and transmit nerve signals.

Many people are deficient in potassium because they do not eat enough fruits and vegetables and instead consume foods and snacks high in sodium. Potassium helps the body’s cells balance the fluids inside and outside of them by activating the sodium-potassium pump to move waste out of the cells and allow nutrients to flow into them. Low intake of potassium-rich foods, especially when coupled with a high intake of sodium, can lead to hypertension and other cardiovascular problems.

Antioxidants and Climate Benefits)

Dates and figs both contain high amounts of antioxidants. The antioxidants found in dates, called proanthocyanidins (OPCs), are water-soluble and readily absorbable from a cup of Teeccino. Figs have been shown to increase antioxidant capacity in humans for four hours after consumption.

Dates and figs grow on trees, which help prevent climate change by sequestering CO2 and creating oxygen through photosynthesis. Dates come from tall trees that can survive extreme heat in the desert. Fig trees play an important keystone role by providing food for birds and animals who then distribute their seeds along with many other plant seeds, thus contributing to the natural ecological system.

Cultivation and Harvesting

Grown throughout the Middle East, date palms are also commercially grown in California by both conventional and organic systems. Teeccino’s organically grown dates and figs are harvested from tree plantations in California.
