amed after the Italian Capuchin monks who wore white hoods, foamy white cappuccinos are the beloved drink of many coffee aficionados. Although cappuccinos are officially brewed using an espresso machine, it is easy to make a great imitation by frothing milk into a velvety foam and putting it atop your cup of Teeccino.

There are different techniques for making milk foam. Handheld milk frothers easily whip up a velvety foam after you've heated the milk in the microwave or on the stovetop. There are also electric milk frothers that hold milk in a stainless steel container that sits on an electric base. If you don't have either of these, simply heat your milk and use a whisk or electric mixer to foam it by hand. Or froth cold milk in a blender and then heat it. (I don't recommend frothing hot milk in a blender because it can cause an eruption and make a big mess!)

For an extra flavorful and artistic finish, sprinkle cinnamon, cocoa powder, or shaved chocolate over the top of the frothed milk. If you're serving this to guests, they'll never know you didn't labor over an espresso machine making these cappuccinos!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Teeccino [French Roast Chicory Herbal Coffee], brewed strong.
  • 4 oz 2% milk or non-dairy milk for frothing (different brands of non-dairy milks produce thick or thin froth. I suggest trying a couple of brands to see which ones work best).

We made this recipe with Teeccino French Roast herbal coffee, featuring intense deep coffee notes from roasted chicory roots and ramón seeds from the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Instructions

Prep Time: 10 minutes , Calories per serving:120

  1. Brew a strong cup of Teeccino using one rounded Tbsp per 8oz of water, or 1 tea bag for 6 ounces of water.
  2. Heat 2 oz milk or non-dairy milk for each mug of Teeccino. Be careful not to scald the milk!
  3. Froth the warm milk using a hand-held milk frother or an electric milk frother.
  4. If neither are available, use an electric mixer or a whisk and beat the milk into a foam.
  5. Let set for 30-45 seconds so that the largest bubbles collapse into a velvety foam.
  6. Top each mug with foam by spooning it out of the container.
  7. Pour more hot milk into each cup after youve used up the foam.

Optional

  1. Shave chocolate with a fine grater and sprinkle over the foamy milk. Alternatively, sprinkle cinnamon or cocoa powder over the top of the foam. For a perfect light dusting, use a metal strainer to shake the powder onto the foamy milk.
